Faculty Senate Monday, May 1, 2000

1. Call to order and welcome to new Faculty Senators.

2. Open session: 15 minutes or less. Statements at the podium on any topic, limited to two minutes. Maximum number of speakers per session is six. No discussion is permitted, and no votes will be taken.

3. Reports from the President of ASUA, the President of GPSC, the Vice Chair of the Faculty, the Secretary of the Faculty, the Chair of the Faculty, the Provost of the University, and the President of the University.

4. Question and answer period for agenda item 3 and the faculty committee reports (enclosed in your packet).

5. Approval of the minutes of April 3, 2000 (copy enclosed).

6. Elections for Committee on Conciliation, University Committee on Ethics and Commitment, University Hearing Board, Shared Governance Review Committee, and Faculty Senate Representative to the Faculty Senate Executive Committee (biographical statements enclosed). Ballots will be distributed on May 1 and will be collected and counted at that time.

7.   Action on consent agenda items forwarded from the Instruction and Curriculum Policy Committee (enclosure).

8.   Information Item: Report on the UA Millennium Project (enclosure) – Dr. Naomi Miller and Dr. Myra Dinnerstein, Millennium Project Co-Chairs.

9.   Further discussion on grievance procedures revisions (enclosure) – Senator Larson, 1999-00 APPC Chair.

10.  Discussion and possible action on revised Smoking Policy (enclosure) – Senator Larson, 1999-00 APPC Chair.

11.   Continued Discussion: Should there be a mid-career writing assessment? – Senator Howell, 1999-00 ICPC Chair, assisted by Ken Smith, Chair, University Assessment Committee.

12.   Old business.

13.   New business.

14.   Adjournment.
