Sept 11: Noon - Difficult Times, Difficult Conversations…An Ombuds Perspective
Student Union Memorial Center South Ballroom
The University of Arizona Ombuds Program Invites you to a Special Presentation to the Campus Community “Difficult Times, Difficult Conversations…An Ombuds Perspective” - Toni P. Robinson, M.S., J.D., Alternate Dispute Resolution Consultant and MIT Ombuds.  Addressing unresolved issues and concerns that exist in a diverse campus community are essential to working in a harmonious atmosphere.  Since conflicts occur at all levels in a University community, the President’s Office Ombuds Program is pleased to present this educational opportunity to the campus community.  “Difficult Times, Difficult Conversations…An Ombuds Perspective” is a seminar that will benefit the entire campus community.  This seminar will be presented by Toni P. Robinson, ADR Consultant and Ombuds in the Office of the President at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  An Ombuds Program helps to promote ethical conduct and values; to alleviate or mitigate disruption caused by disputes; and to identify policies, practices, or issues where a systems change may be appropriate.  Ombuds Programs are particularly effective within organizations during difficult economic and other challenging times.  In this interactive workshop, participants will discuss how to use an Ombuds Program to assist in identifying roadblocks, strategies, resources, and options for managing everyday conflicts.
Ms. Robinson designs and teaches numerous courses and workshops on conflict management, negotiation and other alternative dispute resolution processes.  She was formerly the deputy ombuds in the Office of the Commissioner for the Social Security Administration.  Toni also is a guest lecturer, external ombuds, and certified mediator for public and private sector organizations.  She designs and conducts trainings on effective communication, discrimination issues, disability, diversity and inclusion, and sexual harassment prevention.  She has also served as faculty for the Program on Negotiation, Dispute Resolution Forum of Harvard, MIT, and Tufts University; Senior Lecturer for MIT Sloan; and numerous other academic, corporate, and government organizations.  Toni is a past board member of the University and College Ombuds Association (UCOA) and The Ombuds Association (TOA).  She has served on the professional development committees for the organizations where she has developed and conducted specialized ombuds courses on behalf of both national organizations.  The two organizations merged and are now known as The International Ombudsman Association (IOA). She is a graduate of the Seattle University School of Law and holds Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science Degrees from The Johns Hopkins University.  The faculty and staff who serve as UA Ombuds are dedicated individuals who provide opportunities for early problem resolution, with the goal of preserving good working and learning relations, and preventing some unnecessary formal processes.  There is no charge to attend this event.  If you have questions regarding this seminar or the Ombuds Program, please contact Claudia D’Albini, Program Director, at 626-5589, dalbinic@u.arizona.edu, www.ombuds.arizona.edu.

Send your thanks to our soldiers.
It only takes a minute and is so worthwhile.

If you go to the web site http://www.letssaythanks.com/ you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq.  You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.  It is FREE and it only takes a second.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?  I sent mine, now you send one too!

Curb Auto Theft with the Watch Your Car Program:
It's Quick, Easy and FREE!

The Watch Your Car decal program is a free, voluntary program that vehicle owners enroll their vehicles with the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. The vehicle is then entered into the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) database and participants receive decals for their front and rear windows. By displaying the decals, vehicle owners convey to law enforcement officials that their vehicle is not usually in use between the hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM, when the majority of auto thefts occur. In addition, by enrolling in the Watch Your Car Program, vehicle owners also authorize law enforcement officials to stop their vehicle at any time during the day or night within one mile of the border, if there is a suspicion that the vehicle is being illegally operated.

If a police officer witnesses the vehicle in operation between these hours, they have the right to stop the vehicle and verify it is being legally operated by the rightful owner.

To register for the program online go to: https://www.aata.state.az.us/Watch_Your_Car/Info_Request/signup_request.html

Register by mail by downloading the form at: http://www.azwatchyourcar.com/pdfs/WYC%20-%20application%20form%20for%20website.pdf  Print it, fill it out and mail back.
