Oct 4: 6pm - Dinner with Dr. Jennifer Lee Carrell and Premier Book Signing
Arizona Inn

What if you held the key to a centuries-old secret, one that could possibly shatter the image of the world's best known poet and playwright? How much would a revelation about Shakespeare be worth? Carrell's first novel, INTERRED WITH THEIR BONES is a literary thriller that explores these questions with sumptuous prose and a swift-moving plot. Bard lovers will revel in the Shakespearean clues that pepper the book, which is to be released on September 20 by Dutton. The author holds a Ph.D. in English from Harvard University as well as degrees in English Literature from Oxford and Stanford. She won three awards for distinction in undergraduate teaching at Harvard, where she taught in the History and Literature Program and directed Shakespeare for the Hyperion Theatre Company. Carrell is also the author of The Speckled Monster (2003), a work of historical nonfiction about battling smallpox at the beginning of the eighteenth century, which USA Today praised as being written "in a compelling, almost novelistic voice." Both books will be available for purchase and signing at the Friends of the Library event: Please join the library friends for an evening with Jennifer Lee Carrell, Thursday, October 4, 2007, to be held at Arizona Inn at 7:00 PM with a cash bar beginning at 6:00PM. Dinner is $75 (15 is tax deductible) per person. For further information and reservation, please call Sandy at 621-6431 or Sam 621-3485. Oct 27: 10-4pm - Trunk Show: Oaxacan Woodcarvings by Armando Jimenez and Family
AZ State Museum

One day only! Buy directly from the artist!  Master carver Armando Jimenez from the village of Arrazola, in the foothills of Monte Alban near the city of Oaxaca in Mexico, comes to ASM with loads of his and several family members’ famous, brightly colored figures - bears, cats, rabbits, penquins, all carved in a style learned from their grandfather. Recent violence in the region has undermined the tourism industry so artists are forced to travel to sell their goods. Mr. Jimenez is here for one day only.  Don’t miss your chance to enhance your collection. Oaxacan woodcarvings are the ultimate collectible -  original, whimsical, wildly colorful and always delightful. Carved out of green copal wood with machetes and pocket knives then hand-painted, no two are exactly alike.  Arizona State Museum is located just inside the Main Gate on the University of Arizona campus at Park Avenue and University Blvd 621-6302

Oct 31: Noon-1pm - The Value of Connections: Networking as a Career Strategy workshop
University Services Bldg, Room 214

How can you gain information and advice from insiders about the culture, business and expectations of a prospective employer? How can you develop and mobilize a support group that brings you referrals? Studies on effective networking strategies and accounts from several successful job seekers at the University of Arizona have shown that contacts and networking are more productive than the traditional job-hunt. In this workshop you will learn how to build a network of contacts to assist you with identifying new career opportunities, how to conduct informational and referral meetings and how to set up a record keeping system for contacts in your job search. For more information on the Career Development Workshops call 621-7701 or register online

Send your thanks to our soldiers.
It only takes a minute and is so worthwhile.

If you go to the web site http://www.letssaythanks.com/ you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq.  You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.  It is FREE and it only takes a second.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?  I sent mine, now you send one too!

Curb Auto Theft with the Watch Your Car Program:
It's Quick, Easy and FREE!

The Watch Your Car decal program is a free, voluntary program that vehicle owners enroll their vehicles with the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. The vehicle is then entered into the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) database and participants receive decals for their front and rear windows. By displaying the decals, vehicle owners convey to law enforcement officials that their vehicle is not usually in use between the hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM, when the majority of auto thefts occur. In addition, by enrolling in the Watch Your Car Program, vehicle owners also authorize law enforcement officials to stop their vehicle at any time during the day or night within one mile of the border, if there is a suspicion that the vehicle is being illegally operated.

If a police officer witnesses the vehicle in operation between these hours, they have the right to stop the vehicle and verify it is being legally operated by the rightful owner.

To register for the program online go to: https://www.aata.state.az.us/Watch_Your_Car/Info_Request/signup_request.html

Register by mail by downloading the form at: http://www.azwatchyourcar.com/pdfs/WYC%20-%20application%20form%20for%20website.pdf  Print it, fill it out and mail back.
