Jan 31: 3:30 - 4:45pm - UAdiscusses .
. . Incivility in Academia: An Ombuds Perspective
Student Union Memorial Center Gallagher Theater
The University of Arizona Ombuds Program invites you to a
Special Presentation to the Campus Community - "Incivility
in Academia: An Ombuds Perspective" Mary Chavez Rudolph,
Ph.D. University of Colorado Denver Thomas A. Sebok, M.Ed.,
University of Colorado Boulder
addressing unresolved issues and concerns that exist in a
diverse campus community are essential to working in a
harmonious atmosphere. Since conflicts occur at all
levels in a University community, the President's Office
Ombuds Program is pleased to present this educational
opportunity to the campus community. Incivility in
Academia: An Ombuds Perspective is a seminar that will
benefit the entire campus community: "Have you had
experiences with a hostile supervisor or colleague, or a
demanding and rude student and felt like you could use some
tools to deal with the situation? In this seminar case
studies from academia will be discussed and the relationship
between diversity and conflict will be briefly explored.
There are repercussions to incivility and the impact of
these behaviors on individuals and the institution will be
discussed. Finally, a few tools to helping those who work
with challenging colleagues, supervisors, students, and
parents will be presented." This seminar will be presented
by Mary Chavez Rudolph, Ph.D., Associate Director of the
Ombuds Office at the University of Colorado Denver Health
Sciences Center and Tom Sebok, M.Ed., Director of the Ombuds
Office at the University of Colorado Boulder. Their
experience as academic ombuds spans over twenty-five years.
Their leadership and contributions to the profession of
ombudsing extends internationally. The
faculty and staff who serve as UA Ombuds are dedicated
individuals who provide opportunities for early problem
resolution, with the goal of preserving good working and
learning relations, and preventing some unnecessary formal
processes. There is no charge to attend this event. If you
have questions regarding this seminar or the Ombuds Program,
please contact Claudia D'Albini, Program Director, at
626-5589, dalbinic@u.arizona.edu,

Send your thanks to
our soldiers.
It only takes a minute and is so worthwhile.
If you go to the
web site
http://www.letssaythanks.com/ you can pick out a thank you card
and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is
currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it
will go to some member of the armed services. It is FREE and it
only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers
received a bunch of these? I sent mine, now you send one too! |

Curb Auto
Theft with the Watch Your Car Program:
It's Quick, Easy and FREE!
The Watch Your Car
decal program is a free, voluntary program that
vehicle owners enroll their vehicles with the
Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. The vehicle is
then entered into the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD)
database and participants receive decals for their
front and rear windows. By displaying the decals,
vehicle owners convey to law enforcement officials
that their vehicle is not usually in use between the
hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM, when the majority of
auto thefts occur. In addition, by enrolling in the
Watch Your Car Program, vehicle owners also
authorize law enforcement officials to stop their
vehicle at any time during the day or night within
one mile of the border, if there is a suspicion that
the vehicle is being illegally operated.
If a police officer
witnesses the vehicle in operation between these
hours, they have the right to stop the vehicle and
verify it is being legally operated by the rightful
owner.
To
register for the program online go to:
