Dec 7: 3-4pm - The Art of Waking
People Up: How to Understand, Resolve and Prevent
Organizational Conflicts
Student Union, Gallagher Theater
A seminar that will benefit the entire campus community.
Addressing unresolved issues and concerns that exist in a
diverse campus community are essential to working in a
harmonious atmosphere. Since conflicts occur at all levels
in a University community, the President’s Office Ombuds
Program is pleased to present this educational opportunity
to the campus community. This seminar will be presented by
Kenneth Cloke, Director of the Center for Dispute
Resolution, arbitrator, mediator, consultant and trainer,
specializing in resolving complex multi-party conflicts,
including community, grievance and workplace disputes,
organizational and school conflicts, sexual harassment and
discrimination lawsuits, and public policy disputes, and in
designing conflict resolution systems for organizations.
This seminar, based on "conflict resolution system design,"
will identify ways of using organizational conflicts as
opportunities for transformation and learning. It will
consider the art of waking people up, and transforming the
organizational conditions under which they interact and
resolve their conflicts." UA Ombuds can help prevent
conflicts from escalating to formal grievances or litigation
and adversarial relationships. The economic and humanistic
values of early problem resolution also help maintain a
healthy and productive working and learning environment.
There is no charge to attend this event. If you have
questions regarding this seminar or the Ombuds Program,
please contact Claudia D’Albini, Program Director, UA Ombuds
Program, at 626-5589,
dalbinic@u.arizona.edu,

The
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Tucson Celebrity Waiters Dinner
is Friday, May 4, 2007. It honors two decades of
volunteer service of Dr. George Birger. We ask you to consider
being a Corporate Sponsor and/or donating an item or items for the
auction that evening. We also need hundreds of smaller items for
our $10 Balloon Pop Drawing (each item being valued for at least
$10).
With someone being diagnosed every 5 minutes with leukemia or
its related diseases of Hodgkin’s, multiple myeloma, and lymphoma,
our challenge is clear. We MUST find a cure, and need many generous
friends to help achieve that goal. Every ten minutes someone in
this country dies of a blood cancer. Please become our partner in
working toward a cure for this #1 child-killing disease.
We appreciate your consideration and thank you in advance for any
donation(s) possible. You are bringing hope to thousands of newly
diagnosed blood cancer patients because of your help. Since its
inception, the Dinner has raised close to $700,000 and supported
many researchers at the University of Arizona and the Arizona Cancer
Center. Dr. Nicholas Larmonier of Tucson began his $150,000 grant
from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society July 1.
Please contact Jackie Palmenberg at the Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society’s Phoenix office (PalmenbergJ@lls.org)
if you have any questions about the Society’s programs and
services. While we hope you or your family never need the services
of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, we are here to help if you do. -

Send your thanks to
our soldiers.
It only takes a minute and is so worthwhile.
If you go to the
web site
http://www.letssaythanks.com/ you can pick out a thank you card
and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is
currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it
will go to some member of the armed services. It is FREE and it
only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers
received a bunch of these? I sent mine, now you send one too! |

Curb Auto
Theft with the Watch Your Car Program:
It's Quick, Easy and FREE!
The Watch Your Car
decal program is a free, voluntary program that
vehicle owners enroll their vehicles with the
Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. The vehicle is
then entered into the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD)
database and participants receive decals for their
front and rear windows. By displaying the decals,
vehicle owners convey to law enforcement officials
that their vehicle is not usually in use between the
hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM, when the majority of
auto thefts occur. In addition, by enrolling in the
Watch Your Car Program, vehicle owners also
authorize law enforcement officials to stop their
vehicle at any time during the day or night within
one mile of the border, if there is a suspicion that
the vehicle is being illegally operated.
If a police officer
witnesses the vehicle in operation between these
hours, they have the right to stop the vehicle and
verify it is being legally operated by the rightful
owner.
To
register for the program online go to:
