University of Arizona is teaming up
with Habitat for Humanity Tucson on
Saturday, Oct. 8, for the sixth
annual Day of Caring project.
The Office of Community Relations
and Human Resources Department are
asking faculty, staff and students
to volunteer to make a difference in
our community. This event in the
past has been a true testament to
the University family's abounding
generosity and commitment to the
community. This year, at least
500 volunteers are needed to make
the day a success. To register

University Day at the Ball Park Let’s All Go to the Ballpark!
The
classified staff, their families and friends of NAU,
ASU and UA are celebrating University Day at the
Ball Park. See the Arizona Diamondbacks take
on the San Diego Padres on Sunday September 25th!
We have 100 tickets available – first come, first served. These are
GREAT seats! No telephone or email reservations will be accepted. No tickets will be held
without payment. Deadline for
tickets: September 14, 2005. Checks will be held and
deposited on Sept 20. Reserved bus
service will be available from the UA campus to Bank One
Ballpark. Busses will leave campus from the Marvin “Swede”
Johnson Building 3.5 hours before game time (10:10AM).
Game tickets are $22.00 (both adult and child); Game ticket
plus round trip transportation = $35.00 per person (both
adult and child). To reserve your tickets – you must
send (or deliver) a check, made payable to the “UA Staff
Advisory Council,” along with
completed reservation form to: Ana Rodriguez, Treasurer, UA Staff
Advisory Council, Gould Simpson Bldg, Room 917.
Unsold tickets must be returned by September 15th
for reimbursement - checks must reach us by September 14th–
We will hold all checks until Monday, September 20th

Hospice Training Begins September 15 -
Hospice
Family Care
Do you
respect and revere life? Have you felt
a tug in your heart to help people who
are dying? Have you experienced that
sense of honor and privilege when
spending time with a dying person?
Maybe you
have no experience at all -- but a lot
of interest, questions and a big heart!
Hospice Family Care
volunteers come from many backgrounds
and share a sensitivity to the needs of
patients and families. They are trained
to provide assistance and companionship
such as shopping and running errands or
playing games and cards. Patients are
usually at home, in a skilled-care
facility or in an inpatient unit (Swan
and River). Any person sixteen years of
age or older who has completed a
comprehensive, free training program is
welcome to volunteer.

communication skills, spiritual dynamics
of death and dying, caring for the
caregiver, bereavement, hospice social
service issues and more.

Foundation's AIDSwalk 2005 is coming!

to join the walk Sunday October 16th. Many U of A
groups walk and there is a U of A award given to the U
of A group that raises the most money! This event is a
great way to show support to an organization that offers
many services to the community and several vendors sponsor the
walk so there is free food, water, music, and post-walk

Centers for Women and Children Needs Volunteers
Tucson Centers for Women and Children (TCWC) provides
comprehensive services to women and children who are victims of
domestic violence, including crisis intervention support, emergency
shelter, outreach services, transitional housing and childcare
needs.
The services of TCWC rely heavily on long- term volunteer support.
TCWC is currently looking for volunteers to help the agency serve
the community. The need for committed volunteers is the
greatest in the areas of:
* Assisting with childcare activities
during adult support groups
* Spending time with children at the Angel Children's Center
* Helping in TCWC's administration office
* Helping to answer crisis-line phones
TCWC would greatly appreciate it if you could
post the flyer on your student
bulletin boards or mention the agency's need for volunteers on your
website or in your next newsletter. Giving only a few hours each
week can make the greatest impact in the lives of the victims of
domestic violence.

Staff Council Seeks
Active Members
Classified
staff members who want to be more involved in University
processes and maintain a venue for their opinions to be
heard are invited to apply or make nominations for
membership to the Staff Advisory Council. New members will
be appointed to three-year terms.
The council provides a forum for discussing issues related
to staff as a resource for many on- and off-campus inquiring
groups. In the past year, SAC has had representatives
address the council from UA Human Resources, Parking and
Transportation, the UA Web Council, Ombuds Program,
Strategic Planning and Budget Committee, UA provost and
state legislators and liaisons. The council in turn makes
recommendations on existing and proposed University policies
and procedures to ensure classified staff members are
considered and included in the processes.
In addition, the council has several subcommittees that
organize fund-raising activities, create networking
opportunities and camaraderie among staff and other UA
groups, recognize outstanding employees, manage a
scholarship endowment that benefits staff members who choose
to further their education, and advocates for legislative
activities that support the UA and classified staff.
Nominations are being accepted on the Staff
Advisory Council Web site under the Membership
Application heading. Nominees must be non-probationary
classified staff employees who are energetic, conscientious,
and concerned with staff issues. Each must be willing to
commit eight hours a month to SAC activities.
