Employee Link
Benefits Open Enrollment System
Human Resources
and CCIT are pleased to announce that a new
Employee Link Benefits Open Enrollment
system will be introduced during the
annual open enrollment period from August 29
to September 16, 2005. Over the past several
months, a development team
has partnered to
create an easy-to-use, customized system
that will make your 2005 benefits enrollment
easier than ever!
By adding
this exciting feature within Employee Link,
you no longer need an extra log-in and PIN
to complete your annual benefits
elections…just use your existing University
of Arizona NetID and password to access your
current benefits and make any
desired changes
to your insurance plans, beneficiaries and
dependents. If you do not have a NetID or
need to reset your password, you may do so
through the University's NetID website at
http://netid.arizona.edu.
Employee Link
currently allows you to access your personal
and employment information at The University
of Arizona. You can update your home
address, check your vacation and sick
balances, view your paycheck stubs and
deductions, print copies of your W-2,
revise your
state and federal tax withholding
information, and verify your UA employment
history back to 1991. Check out the
convenient features at
http://emplink.arizona.edu.
We're always looking for ways to enhance
Employee Link and welcome your suggestions and
feedback.

Elected to Lead Staff Council for 2005-06
The Staff
Advisory Council announces its new executive board for the
2005-2006 fiscal year.
Anne Lopez, executive vice president
Kathy Bell, administrative vice president
Melissa Fritz, corresponding secretary
Laura Esham, recording secretary
Ana Rodriguez, treasurer
Kathi Hart, past president
The Staff Advisory Council meets the first Tuesday of each
month at 3 p.m. in the Marvin D. "Swede" Johnson Building.

University employees. Rooms vary so check at the

SAC works to foster and enhance communications between the
classified staff and the University community. It provides a
forum for discussing and defining the role of classified
staff in the University and represents and advocates their
concerns within the University community and statewide. In
addition, SAC serves as a resource for inquires and
requests, advises and make recommendations on existing and
proposed University policies and procedures, and to ensure
inclusion of classified staff on University committees. |

Staff Council Seeks
Active Members
Classified
staff members who want to be more involved in University
processes and maintain a venue for their opinions to be
heard are invited to apply or make nominations for
membership to the Staff Advisory Council. New members will
be appointed to three-year terms.
The council provides a forum for discussing issues related
to staff as a resource for many on- and off-campus inquiring
groups. In the past year, SAC has had representatives
address the council from UA Human Resources, Parking and
Transportation, the UA Web Council, Ombuds Program,
Strategic Planning and Budget Committee, UA provost and
state legislators and liaisons. The council in turn makes
recommendations on existing and proposed University policies
and procedures to ensure classified staff members are
considered and included in the processes.
In addition, the council has several subcommittees that
organize fund-raising activities, create networking
opportunities and camaraderie among staff and other UA
groups, recognize outstanding employees, manage a
scholarship endowment that benefits staff members who choose
to further their education, and advocates for legislative
activities that support the UA and classified staff.
Nominations are being accepted on the Staff
Advisory Council Web site under the Membership
Application heading. Nominees must be non-probationary
classified staff employees who are energetic, conscientious,
and concerned with staff issues. Each must be willing to
commit eight hours a month to SAC activities.

for more information.

Child Care and Family Resources provides professional consultative,
financial assistance and sick and emergency/back-up child care services to
benefits-eligible employees at the University of Arizona. Review the
descriptions, guidelines and registration or application protocols
provided at
http://lifework.arizona.edu/cc/. These specialized services are
specifically designed to support the
work/life needs of the
University community. Please contact UA Life Work Connection by telephone
at (520) 626-9683 or 621-4365 MST or by
email for more information about our comprehensive menu of child care
offerings. Elder Care information available at
http://lifework.arizona.edu/ec/
Choice Care Agency, Inc., the current vendor providing sick child and
emergency back-up care services to benefits eligible employees and
students will implement the following guidelines for FY 2006:
"12 usages per years for SCP and EBCP. All twelve can be used for
either type of service or for a combination. For counting days of use,
there will no longer be half/whole day distinctions. Any amount of
service on a day will constitute a "usage." Participants will pay only
for the hours used. For those 12 usages the employee/student
co-pay will be $2 per hour plus $1 per hour for each additional child.
After 12 usages, participants will pay the standard hourly rate of $18."
In the past year, employees have used the service 242 times for a total
of 892.5 hours. Only one employee used the service more than five
times; 42 used more than once. Students used the service 78 times for a
total of 575 hours. There was a discussion of how to make this service
more visible to staff and students. This is a model program, neither
ASU nor NAU have one - and, around the country, UA is the leader in this
type of program. This is a benefit - not an entitlement - but we hope
you will spread the word.

UA EMPLOYEES TO RECEIVE 1.7
PERCENT INCREASE TO SALARY
University employees will
receive a 1.7 percent increase to their pay effective July
1. While the 1.7 percent has been allocated by the
Legislature for state and locally funded employees, the UA
will compensate all individuals consistently regardless of
the source of position funding. Only in unusual
circumstances when funding is not available will an increase
be deferred temporarily until funding becomes available.
