General Meeting Minutes
August 4, 2009

Present:  Grace Aranda, Claudia Arias, Sharon Bouck, Deborah Buenger, Joyce Childers, Monica Franco, Angie Gomez, Eddie Gomez, Carolyne Greeno, Danielle Griffin, Phyllis Kabins, Robin Kruse, Therese Lane, Randy Livingston, Roberta Pearson, Deborah Quintana, Diana Rix & Jannelle Weakly

Excused: Cori Cashen, Lupe Jacobo, Shana McClelland & Ana Rodriguez

Call to Order: 3:05 p.m.

Opening Announcements – Eddie Gomez:

Deb Kimball resignation was approved at the Executive Board Meeting on 7/29/09.

Special Election for Historian/Parliamentarian: Ballots with nominee Monica Franco or write-in are passed out. Request to have completed ballots to Angie Gomez before the end of the meeting. 

Treasurer’s Report – Sharon Bouck: 2009-2010 budget reflects an 8 % cut ($1,000 difference). Sharon requested each committee chair to submit an estimated budget for their needs for this year. Randy Livingston has previous year-end budgets (available upon request) to assist preparation with estimated budgets.  

New Business

New members approved at the Executive Board Meeting on 7/29/09, welcome to Danielle Griffin, Roberta Pearson and Teresa Lane. 

Town Hall with President Shelton, Sept 15th from 1:30 – 2:30, Gallagher Theater: Need for live feed and budget for live feed is pending.  The event is open to all Classified Staff, and will be advertised via SAC Website, Classified Staff Listserv-Meeting Notice & Lo Que Pas article. All advertisements will include a request to pre-submit questions to the President (via SAC web-site). Eddie is overseeing these aspects. Discussion was had about the problems with Open Enrollment & our Benefits package. This may be a heavy topic at the Town Hall meeting. It was suggested that we invite Leslie Porter, HR Director to one of our future meetings.  

Media related activities–Need to be authorized by Executive Committee. Please submit all requests to Eddie Gomez. 

Priorities for this year:

1.    New logo—SAC needs to be compliant with UA Marketing regulation. Eddie is working with External Relations.

2.    Website Overhaul—Suggestion for changes should be sent to Eddie Gomez to be passed onto the Communications Chair, Carolyn  

3.    Newsletter ideas—Seeking Newsletter ideas.  Please submit to Carolyn Greeno

4.    Utilization of SAC office—The SAC Office is located at BearDown Gym and is available for small committee meetings and for SAC material storage. Keith Humphrey requested we move our office upstairs. This area is not handicap accessible.  Eddie will tour the upstairs and check on the space & air conditioning.

5.    New activities—SAC Football Tailgate with even greater discounted tickets are pending.

6.    Updating member bios—Eddie requested everyone have their Bio’s on the Website and are up-to-date.

7.    General Meeting times/locations for this year – Posted on website. 

Guest introduction by Randy Livingston of Darlene Rogers.  Darlene came to this SAC meeting to network. She has just been laid-off from her position at the College of Medicine and is falling just short of 100% retirement eligible. Darlene is interested in any/all open positions, part-time or full time. 

Election Results: Last call for ballots. Angie read results-16 yes votes for Monica Franco to be Historian/Parliamentarian, No write-ins. 

Committee Reports:

Standing:

1.       Tri-University Classified Staff Executive Board – SAC Executive Committee. Eddie said NAU is interested meeting.

2.       Communications - Carolyne Greeno- In the process of setting up their first meeting.

3.       Emily Krauz Staff Endowment Fund – Shana McClelland-No report

4.       Employee Recognition - Grace Aranda-Event date will be April 13, 2010.

5.       Human Resources – Monica Franco-First meeting to be held August 17. Committee hopes to have Leslie Porter attend second meeting for the semester to receive final input before sending out a letter to HR and President Shelton outlining our goals for the year.

6.       Legislative – TBA (Sub. Phyllis) Committee is trying to get a seated Representative to come and speak.

7.       Membership/Liaisons – Angie Gomez-1st meeting is immediately following the SAC General Meeting, 8/4/09

8.       Activities – Claudia Arias-Committee is working on the following events; Vendor Fair August 27 & 28, KUAT phon-A-thon September 16, Breast Cancer Walk October

9.       Conference – Claudia Arias & Debbie Buenger-1st meeting will be planned in the next couple of weeks.

10.  UA South – TBA 

University Committees:

1.       Appointed Professional Advisory Council (APAC) – Shana McClelland-No Report—Eddie is asking for volunteers to either assist Shana or take over as the SAC Representative to APAC.

2.       Campus Advisory Council (CAC) – Grace Aranda-No Report

3.       Campus Emergency Response Team Committee (CERT) - Joyce Childers-No Report

4.       Campus Recreation Advisory Council  - Jim Hicks-No Report

5.       Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) – Eva Gonzales-No Report

7.       Faculty Senate –  Eddie Gomez-No Report

8.       Naming Committee – Sharon Bouck-No Report

Suggestion to list those that donated door prizes to the SAC Retreat be thanked and listed on our website.

Brief discussion about possible cash donation direct to SAC and the impact it would have on administrative funding.
