Staff Advisory Council General Meeting Minutes
March 6, 2007

Meeting was held in Room 104 at 1125 N Vine St. President of SAC, Eva Gonzales, presided at the meeting, and Secretary Grace Aranda took the minutes.

Present: Grace Aranda, Lauren Bivona, Lupita Cruz, Carolyn Eaton, Barbara Foster, Eva Gonzales, Kathi Hart, Jean Mason, Mike Millard, Lilian Schwartz, Ruth Szabo, Claire Tapia

Excused: Cori Cashen, Lupe Jacobo, Kevin Law, Randy Livingston, Debbie Miller, Ana Rodriguez

Guests: Crystal Schaefer (Univ Library), Michael Vitale (UTC), Charles Hester (HR), Anila DeHart (HR)

I. Eva introduced our guest speakers:

Charles Hester and Anila DeHart from Human Resources presented A New View of Engagement: Lessons from the New Employee Survey.  The results of the survey to new employees,  2 years and less.  Employees make critical decisions about their jobs in the first 2 years.  Survey enables UA to learn the challenges that new employees face; understand their resource needs; and identify opportunities for HR to support them.

II. Opening Announcements -- Eva Gonzales

Reminder: We need volunteers to help decorate for the Staff Awards for Excellence Event 4/16/07: 12-3pm in the Student Union Ballroom. Anyone available is needed so please turn out to help!

III. Treasurer's Report - Jean Mason $4149 in regular SAC funds.

IV. Committee Reports -

Standing:

1. Tri-University Classified Staff Executive Board - SAC Executive members are planning to attend the next Tri U at ASU. Any SAC member wanting to attend let Eva know.

2. Communications - March newsletter is being distributed. We have been distributing announcements and bulletins via USC and Staff Advisory Councils as usual. Anything to add send them to Grace.

3. Emily Krauz Staff Endowment Fund - Eva announced that the panel is accepting applications.

4. Employee Recognition - Grace Aranda - Event is monday the 16th and we need volunteers. Anyone able to give us an hour please show up in the Student Union ballroom at noon.

5. Human Resources - Jean Mason getting comments on policies.

6. Legislative - Carolyn reported there are no recent updates.

7. Membership/Liaisons - Lauren reported that we are in need of new recruits.  Committee will meet to discuss ideas after the conference. Eva reported she would  like to go to councils and inform them about SAC.

8. Activities -- Lupita Cruz - Supervisors breakfast is coming up and then KUAT pledge drive which Barbara is working to arrange. July 27 is the retreat from 8-4 at La Paloma.

9. Conference -- Lupita Cruz reported that the  Crossroads Conference is March 16 and thanks all committee members for making time to set up materials prior to the event. More information to come.

10. UA South -- Russ Robinson - no report

University Committees

1. Appointed Professionals Advisory Council (APAC) - no report

2. Campus Advisory Council (CAC) -- Grace Aranda reported they had not had a meeting in quite a while.

3. Campus Emergency Response Team Committee (CERT) - Jean Mason - no meeting

4. Campus Recreation Advisory Council 2007-2008 (CRAC) every other year - Lilian Schwartz - no meeting

5. Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) - Eva reported that the next Intersections conference is being planned again after the Way Up conference didnt hit the same target audience.  More information will be distributed as it comes to her.

6. Diversity Coalition - Eva Gonzales - no meeting

7. Faculty Senate - Eva Gonzales - elections are upcoming

8. Gateway Strategic Alliance - no report

9. Millennium Project Action Committee (MPAC) - Eva Gonzales, Jean Mason - no report

10. Naming Committee - no report

11. Life and Work Connections - Grace Aranda - no meeting

12. Parking and Transportation Advisory Board - Barbara Foster - More bike lockers are coming to campus in part to alleviate the problem and fire hazard from having bikes in offices which is against policy.

13. Shared Governance -- Eva Gonzales - no meeting

14. Strategic Planning Budget Advisory Committee (SPBAC) - no report

15. S.U. Advisory Board - Lupita Cruz - budget is a definite problem with changes and cutbacks probable

16. University Compensation Advisory Team (UCAT) - no report

17. UA Retiree Organization - no report

18. University Hearing Board - Randy Livingston - no meeting

19. UA Cares Steering Committee -- Eva Gonzales - no meeting
