Staff Advisory Council General Meeting Minutes
June 6, 2006

Meeting was held in Room 205 of the Alumni Bldg. President of SAC, Eva Gonzalez, presided at the meeting, and Secretary Grace Aranda took the minutes.

Present: Grace Aranda, Robb Carlisle, Cori Cashen, Carolyn Eaton, Barbara Foster, Eva Gonzales, Kathi Hart, Lauren Johnson, Randy Livingston, Jean Mason, Lillian Schuartz, Ruth Szabo, Claire Tapia, Kevin Law, Charlotte Gould, Lupe Jacobo, Amanda Palma

Guests: Valerie Teetor (Plant Sci), Michael Brunke (CoSSAC)

Eva began the meeting by welcoming everyone, reminding them to be sure to sign in on the roster and get some refreshments before our speaker starts.

Eva announced that one of the things on the agenda today included awarding Provost George Davis the SAC Special award. The special award is for someone who has gone above and beyond for SAC or staff. It was announced at the ERC event on April 13 but he was not able to attend and we wanted to make the presentation before our speaker. He is supposed to drop in between meetings and we will present it when he arrives.

Eva reminded everyone that SAC will be helping with the annual KUAT pledge drive again this year. We have been assigned June 24: 8 a.m. to noon. Barbara Foster is distributing a sign up sheet for anyone willing to help answer phones for this worthy cause.

Eva also reminded everyone that the Supervisors Thank You Breakfast has been set for June 13: 8:30 a.m. to 10. Robb Carlisle is distributing a list to get everyone’s supervisor name and email so that a reminder can be sent. We will have past SAC president Jose Solorzano give a presentation on what SAC is and does for UA staff.

Eva passed around a sign up sheet for the SAC retreat on July 28 at La Paloma. Be sure to confirm you will be attending and check for shirt sizes. The exec board will be discussing retreat items at the next meeting on June 20th if anyone has anything to add be sure to contact Eva.

Eva announced that as usual June is the time we vote in our new officers. If everyone is agreed we can expedite the process by having nominees leave the room and having an oral vote rather than written. Members agreed and the voting commenced. New board members are: President - Eva Gonzales, Admin VP - Robb Carlisle, Exec VP - Carolyn Eaton, Recording Secretary - Grace Aranda, Treasurer - Ana Rodriguez. Congratulations and thanks were given to all those willing to serve.

Carolyn Eaton gave the Legislative Committee report that the legislature is experiencing some turmoil and we haven’t had much consensus on issues. She will continue to stay on top of updates and distribute information as she gets it.

Cori Cashen reported that an electronic bulletin has been distributed. The website it getting a new look and everyone should take the time to check it out and make comments. We would really like to update committee pages so if you have any updates be sure to send them to Grace. Next newsletter will go out in the fall and we are beginning work on it. Anyone having ideas they would like included contact Cori.

Eva then introduced Nancy Rogers, a registered dietician with Life & Work Connections on "Work & Life Balance: Fitting Healthy Habits into Your Reality and thanked her for coming to speak to us. Nancy had numerous handouts and agreed to send Grace information for the website.

Meeting adjourned at 4:40 p.m.

Respectively submitted by,
Grace Aranda
Recording Secretary
