Legislative Pride Night/Feb. 8

Groups need to leave at 11 and head back to Tucson around 9:00 p.m.

Contact person in Maricopa is Stan Farn.

February 1:  Guest speaker will be George Davis.  He will speak on breaking down barriers between staff and faculty.  It was reported that he is excited to attend.  He is very pleased with the new  “Wildcat Family Spirit” award.

Wildcat award notes:  50 requests received, 5 profiles received for award

Group award still needs President’s signature.  Will start next year.

Planned SAC house raid on Jan 19 to straighten out the house.

Anne Lopez reported on Parking and Transportation meeting.  Parking costs are anticipated to go up – not set in stone yet.  When you purchase a space in lot specific zone, they will not over sell spaces.  Zone 1 will be phased out but will have some left.  Payments will be lengthened out from 19 to 24 to help offset cost.  Parking near Plumer will be cheapest (take shuttle in), although they will need more drivers to transport people. Hopefully in late January there will be more information on exact lots and costs.  Ann suggests you contact representatives to request lighting on streets for safety especially for Helen and Mabel.  Health Sciences are being asked to park in new garage – safety concerns.   Plans are on the way to improve shuttle service.  Goal for 2020:  no parking on campus only in garages.  Suggestion was made that SAC check into parking spaces at Science Teach Park and ride bus to UA.

Treasurer report submitted by Ana Rodriguez.  $490 is left in budget.

Cathy Nicholson spoke on how to get and how to give references.  Suggestion:  Get a release form signed for references from employee.  Be honest in what you say.  Everyone agreed that this would be a good newsletter article.  Cathy will submit to Grace.

Standing Reports

Jan 26:   Staff Stateholder’s report to be given in Phoenix.  Report will be distributed when received.

Communications:  2 newsletters/quarterly promoting membership will be done.

Emily K:  Applications were down.  Next two weeks will announce winners.   Tip:  When filling out forms read guidelines for criteria.  Also people can apply in Spanish.

Employee Recognition:  1 complete packet teaser to be sent by 3D memo.  Deadline:  Jan 26.

Committee will meet on a need to meet basis.  Discussed ideas on getting more people aware of SAC.  Suggestion:   have each department web page list a link to SAC.

Tour & Pride Night:  February 8 invitations will be mailed out to SAC members who did not attend today’s meeting.

Kathy Bell committee suggests a bake sale, (popcorn, cookies, etc.  Suggestions were made that free bag of popcorn with every purchase, cake walk.  Suggested location:  end of tunnel near Speedway and Olive Garage on the southside of the tunnel.  Maybe try for Valentine’s Day
