Present: Grace Aranda, Kathy Bell, Peg Davis, Carolyn Eaton, Laura Esham, Barbara Foster, Eva Gonzales, Kathleen Hart, Anne Lopez, Gilbert Maldonado, Jean Mason, Ana Rodriguez, Karen Stanley, Ruth Szabo, Lewis Tenney, Alicia Velasquez, Lisa Wakefield.
Guests: Claire Taia (Library Staff Government Rep.)

Agenda Business

1. Mary Durham and Chris Farley from UA Ombudsman Program. Introduction and purpose of program: what they do and don’t. Conflicts (UA related), also doesn’t have to be a conflict - opportunity to vent. They direct people in the right direction. They value confidentiality. Notes are shredded as soon as it is resolved. Very little paper trail. Risk free, as much as possible. They are a neutral source. They also suggested attending Feb 10 Workshop “ABC’s of Conflict Resolution”

2. Provost Davis spoke to council on building bridges and breaking down walls regarding faculty and staff. We need to know what the fundamental role is for staff and faculty. Leads to better relations and understanding. We need short presentations by faculty to staff and staff to faculty. Motivation: Build academic community. Faculty university life is usually publish or perish. We should ask questions of faculty to better understand where they are coming from, i.e., what does it take to become tenured? Or have a faculty member describe what they do in reality. Then have the staff explain what we do and why we need certain things from them to do our work. Faculty and Staff need to have teamwork. When faculty or staff attends conferences - maybe they should hold a conference and tell what they learned. Vision: interchange between faculty and staff of what roles and responsibilities are. To start this mission, talk to Juan Garcia (Karen and Kathi will talk to him) about attending “Heads Up” to present this joint venture. Provost Davis will talk to Juan Garcia to start the ball rolling. He will let him know that SAC/Kathi Hart will contact him. This will be a good pilot study - fun, serious and informative. At the end of his talk he was presented the Wildcat Family Spirit Award. So far approx. 50 have been given out.

3. Provost Davis has agreed to report on Legislative and government report at a later time.

Other business:

1. Pride Night Reminder - contact Jean if you want to attend. One vehicle is reserved, will reserve one more. Eight have registered to attend Eva Gonzales and Kathi Hart have volunteered to drive.

2. April 1 - Bake Sale. Please sign up to bring baked goods or donate money towards baking supplies. Hoping to sell by the tunnel.

3. SAC House update: SAC house is in sad repair (rodent, termite, rain damage). Lead paint was used and there is no money to restore. Kathi suggests we talk to space management to store materials that are in the house. Suggestion was made we release the house so private funds can be used to restore since it is a historic building. Space in Old Main (possibility). We will look into storage space. Kathy Bell says it maybe possible to store at her place of employment. Shared SAC, Beta and other group. Building will cost more to fix it then it is worth. None opposed to move somewhere else. Tapes should be transferred to DVD before tapes are lost. Lisa will follow-up with Melissa Vito on Room in Old Main and report to Kathi on outcome.

No other business coming before the meeting, the meeting was thereupon adjourned at 5:00 p.m

Respectively submitted by,

Eva Teso Gonzales
Recording Secretary
