Johnson Bldg., Rm. 312 on December 7, 2004. Kathi Hart, President
of SAC presided at the meeting, and Eva Gonzales, Secretary took the
minutes, as provided by the Bylaws.
Present: Kathy
Bell, Peg Davis, Carolyn Eaton, Laura Esham, Barbara Foster, Eva
Gonzales, Rebecca Hindman, Gilbert Maldonado, Corey Jean Mason, Ana
Rodriguez, Karen Stanley, Ruth Szabo, Lewis Tenney.
Guests: Cathy
Nicolson (HR liason)
No guest speaker at
this meeting.
Membership
Recruitment: approx 6,000 classified staf on campus/130 in Phoenix.
In May we had 41 SAC members and now: 24 current.
Brainstorming for
recruitment:
· Popcorn
social in march
· Phone
conference with Phoenix – might entice people to join
· Schedule
a brief meeting with counties to have staff join SAC.
· Attend
In- service meetings at county offices.
· Ask
each College for list of their members.
· Many
colleges have their own CoSSAC-send SAC members to attend these
college meetings.
· Check
out ASU web council web page and see how they are structured.
· Call
each college for representation.
· Ask
President Likens to send letters to department.
· New
members should have a mentor. They should be supplied with a
notebook that has rules, history and the list of committees they can
join and serve on.
· Advertise
what we have done and what is in progress ie.; bereavement, Avesis
eye insurance, childcare service, shared governance group,
orthodontist.
· We
were the basis for other universities to form SAC in their
universities.
· We
need to update history flyers and distribute to staff.
· Challenge
people to join with what is happening and future items we are
planning to work on.
· This
would be a perfect Spring semester project. Use students to help
but offer them units for the project.
· Long
term Care Insurance – not offered/an issue we should address. What
are options and opportunities?
· Lifetime
Cares: Salary. What are we spending money on and what about
purchasing clubs?
· Send
press releases on what has happened.
· Have
a historian/elected officer to compile info, update web page. Give
info to new members – easy reference – guidelines. Have a mentor
assigned to new members. Committee chairs need guidelines, budget
example, how to contact resources, how to set up a meeting.
· Each
committee needs to submit a budget. Should start a notebook on what
needs to be done so it can be handed to the next committee chair.
· Comment:
Sonie Taylor and George Davis – both big supporters of SAC.
· Make
presentation at new employee orientation – Cathy says we have
representation already.
· New
Employee Luncheon – All SAC members should attend. Perfect time to
greet and talk to them about SAC.
· Advertise
the key things we have done.
· What
about working on Retirement- rate increase almost up 3%. Cathy
informed us that it is a self-funded insurance – not able to change
it. Mandatory deduction for all state employees
· Propose
to sponsor a dinner/dance in Ballroom with a DJ playing 40’s and
jazz.
Fundraising:
· Sell
plants on the mall. AG sells every year and is very successful.
· Concession
stands/ Football and basketball
· Bake
Sales
· Popcorn
social is being seen as a waste of time. Maybe combination bake,
plant sale with it. Suggestion was made to sell poinsettias next
year.
·
Arts & Crafts on
mall – SAC should get involved – something like a street fair.
Maybe SAC can sponsor such an event. Kathy Bell has contracts in
this venue. Good idea to check into.
Membership/Liason is
Gilbert Maldonado – replacing Ann Lopez.
Discussed how Dept
can handle the Holiday leave: depends on supervisor if time can be
made up. Check out the HR website – Holiday info.
Need to review
Bylaws. Committee to meet in informal meetings once a quarter
January meeting
will be moved to a week later on Jan 11.
February 8: Tour of
Capital/Pride Night. Governor will proclaim it UA Day. Hoping to
get at least 2 van so people leaving at Noon.
HR proposal will
look the same – SAC will be recognized as part of approval stage.
Fingerprint: has not been passed - Criminal History check.
