OPENING:
The Meeting convened at
3:00 p.m. Lisa Wakefield welcomed everyone and apologized for canceling the
January meeting.
Lisa announced that
council member Mark Roszler and his wife Lasha had their baby and that Mark
was out on Maternity leave.
The committee was given
several handouts:
- BETA Directions
Conference “Learn how to be a better you” to be held on March 21, 2003 at
the Manning House for more information call Lupita Cruz at 621-2484.
- The College of
Social and Behavioral Sciences Staff Advisory Newsletter.
- Let’s All Go To The
Ballpark! University day at the Diamondbacks, May 3rd and
August 24th. Look for more information in the March issue of
the SAC Newsletter.
Judi Greil gave the
Treasurer’s report. The only major budget items were the Halloween party and
the $2756 that Administration took back due to budget cuts.
The SAC Executive Board
regretfully announced that Executive Vice President Gordon Groat has been
laid off due to budget cuts. Barb Lancaster, Administrative Vice President,
will move up into the position of Executive Vice President. Karen Stanley
has agreed to temporarily fill the vacated Administrative Vice President
position. Lisa again made a call for
Corresponding Secretary nominations.
HR Liaison Cathy
Nicholson handed out a proposed policy on Administrative Drop with Prejudice
and an Interim Policy on Disruptive Behavior in an Instructional Setting.
Due to the current political climate, HR will be updating their website with
additional information concerning military leave. The Background Check
Policy is now ready for public comment.
Lisa spoke a little
about Focused Excellence and the president’s plan for eliminations, mergers
and reconstructions. President Likins will be relying on members of the
Staff Advisory Council to sit on committees. Lisa believes there will be
about 30 such committees and that the council members role will be to meet
with staff in the affected area and bring recommendations and concerns back
to the main committee. SPBAC will also have a
large role in the process.
Standing Committee
reports: The Employee Recognition committee reported that out of the 59
nominations received, 57 were complete and 56 were eligible. Judges are in
the process of picking up packets now. The event will be held in the
Student Union Ballroom on April 17th from 3-5.
Rolf suggests we
advertise for the Staff Advisory Council in the Wildcat.
Lou gave a report on
the newly completed Student Union. The grand opening festivities will begin
on February 17th.
Barb reported that
membership was down.
Lisa opened the floor
for discussion. The meeting adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
The next general
meeting will be Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Please mark your calendars.
Respectfully submitted
by Kathi Hart.
