Hamdi A. Qafisheh is Professor Emeritus of Arabic Language & Linguistics
Of
Near
Eastern
Studies
for the
University
of
Arizona.
For the
last
thirty
years he
has been
studying
and
researching
Peninsula
Arabic,
especially
the Arabic
dialects
spoken in
the Gulf
state of
the U.A.E.,
Bahrain
and Qatar
and the
Arabic
dialects
spoken in
San’a
and Aden
in the
Republic
of Yemen.
He has
traveled
extensively
in the
Gulf
States,
Yemen and
Saudi
Arabia. He
has
published
beginning,
intermediate
and
advanced
language
texts of
Gulf
Arabic and
Yemen
Arabic,
referenced
grammars
and
learners’
dictionaries
of Gulf
Arabic and
Yemen
Arabic. In
addition
he has
published
a number
of
articles
on
contrastive
and error
analysis,
language
pedagogy
and other
articles
on applied
linguistics.
Hamdi A. Qafisheh is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (M.A. 1965, Ph.D. 1968). His research in the area of Arabic dialects has regularly received numerous federal grants in national competition. In addition to the important scholarly contribution of his research, his instructional contribution is extremely important as well. He taught modern standard Arabic Gulf Arabic, Levantine Arabic, and courses in Arabic linguistics. In recognition of his teaching ability, he was awarded Four faculties teaching and teaching improved awards at the University of Arizona.
