Traces the origins and nature of Israelite
prophecy within its ancient Near Eastern cultural context. Focus on the
literary forms of Israelite and Judaic prophecy and on the philosophical
issues addressed by several major prophets. May be convened with JUS 530Survey of
Jewish and Christian apocalyptic literature which explores the literary
features and sociological significance of apocalyptic thought in Western
culture from antiquity to the present.
