Survey of the history and religions of ancient Israel
from c.2000 to 586 BCE. Through reading and class lectures, students
will study topics including creation myths in Israel and neighboring
countries, the traditions about Israel’s founding matriarchs and
patriarchs, the emergence of Israel in Syria-Palestine, the archaeology
of Israel. The diversity of Israelite religion, and the history of the
kingdoms of Israel and Judah. |
