Instructions for enabling NTLM V2 Windows 98 Authentication

• Make sure you have IE 5.0 or later 128bit encryption loaded on your Windows 98 machine

• Download the Windows 98 Active Directory Services Client

• Run the installation (dsclient.exe), accept defaults

• After installation of the ADS Client, run the Registry Editor, using registry editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system.. Use Registry Editor at your own risk

• From the Start, Run field type in "RegEdit" without the quotes

• Locate the following key in the registry:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control

• Create an LSA registry key in the registry key listed above

• On the Edit menu, click New, Dword Value and then add the following registry key

            Value Name is LMCompatibility (Type in with capitalization as shown)

            Date Type is REG-DWORD

            Value: 3

• Quit Registry Editor

• It may require a reboot of your PC.

• After this your PC will be using a higher encryption process when authenticating against our CCIT Domain for any of your Front Page web authoring.  This secure authentication process helps prevent hackers from sniffing out passwords across the network.
